Love doesn’t pay the bills?
We have all heard the saying before, but I disagree.
Love Can Pay The Bills!
…And, I’ll explain what I mean in just a second.
But, before some of you get all amped up and start acting defensive, I don’t mean that simply tying the knot with your wife or being super close to your girlfriend, or just being all lovey-dubby is going to cut it…Unless, you’re in a some 90’s sitcom or staring in some Rom-Com movie, then, you probably won’t earn a living being a just loving person, that is unless your significant other happens to also be paying you and you are a prostitute.
Anyway…
Having “Love for the game” and “Love for your customers” is really what I’m saying.
There’s all kinds of different ways, you and I, and all the others that make the world go round, use their sex impulse, attraction, desires, lust and love, as a muse, or as a motivator in some way, or even has a rewards system attached to it, that keeps us working and staying at our jobs…which basically is what’s really keeping the lights on if you think about it.
Entrepreneurs that stay up all night drinking coffee and crunching numbers — they love money, and some of them make lots and lots of dead presidents (or crypto) because, well, they LOVE making money. (maybe you’re one of them?)
When Mom and Dad have to bust their ass to get food on the table, they have a love for their children, and being a provider, a loving and caring provider for the family… Mom and Dad will go great lengths to keep us from starving.
Even creepy dudes relieving themselves, or those that are addicted to porn, or the women behind the videos teasing the men, are also using, well maybe not ‘love’, but it’s cousin “sex and lust” to keep the economy moving.
Look at athletes, or the Olympics and gym rats… they all have a common thread, or belief in themselves or a love for the game or being on a team that keeps the adrenaline flowing and makes winners win.
Loving what you do is so important in business. And, if money is the ONLY thing you are after and JUST focusing on selling products, then I have to tell you the truth, my friend…
You will eventually HATE your job. HATE your customers, and probably HATE your life
Whenever you start up any new business venture or any business, really, I know it’s very… no, extremely tempting and logical to wanna sell your products and be focusing on how to get them in the right hands (this is also true for a service you provide that you are very passion and good at).
But, you really wanna look at things from the other end. The users end.
There’s a whole bit of detail we can get into looking at the psycho-graphics of a typical consumer or potential buyer, but we’ll save that for some other time.
However, you do want to start with the market, or the people you think will want to buy this :thing” you have for sale. You do want to consider a particular demographic as well, and be thinking about the buying behaviors and insecurities the markets is facing right now at this very moment!
What they LOVE and what drives your market is what pays the bills, my friend.
By the way, I have something to ask you. How early is to early to say “I Love You?”
just curious.
Stay tuned for the next installment where I break down why it’s not cool to have “a rule of thumb” anymore…
Peace
Justin McDonald
